Recognizing Grooming in Schools
Grooming is not a single event. It is a deliberate pattern of behaviors designed to gain a student’s trust, create secrecy, and gradually violate healthy boundaries. Educators are uniquely positioned to recognize these warning signs before abuse occurs.
This one-hour course helps teachers identify the stages of grooming, understand how offenders manipulate students both in person and online, recognize why grooming itself causes harm, and understand their legal responsibilities as mandated reporters. Participants will also explore practical strategies for creating transparent learning environments that protect students while safeguarding educators through healthy professional boundaries. When applicable, educators also receive state-specific guidance covering current grooming laws and school reporting requirements.
