Literacy coaches work with teachers rather than students. Demand for literacy coaches has grown significantly as states move from passing SoR legislation to actually implementing it.

Reading Specialist
Reading specialists assess struggling readers, design intervention programs, and often lead school-wide literacy initiatives. Many states require a reading specialist endorsement or certification beyond a standard teaching license. However, SoR professional development — particularly at the graduate level — builds directly toward those requirements.

Instructional Coordinator
Instructional coordinators oversee curriculum development, evaluate instructional materials, and support teachers across a school or district. According to BLS, this role projects 2% job growth through 2034, with approximately 20,400 annual openings — most of them resulting from workers transitioning out of the role or retiring.
